What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder?

Last week my fiance’ and I met up with my golf buddy John and his wife, and another couple Ashley and Heidi, we went to our favorite golf course here in town to get in a couple of rounds of golf. We were all in the fairway, and that’s when I saw Heidi pull out something from her golf bag. I thought it was a GoPro camera, then Heidi told me it was her rangefinder she had been using for a while now. So, I got to thinking, what is the best golf rangefinder? These rangefinders below are in no particular order, and my reviews will help you in deciding which one will meet your needs and also fits into your budget.

Why Do I Need A Rangefinder?

Although courses have their own yardage markers, a rangefinder can give extremely accurate yardage to the pin and some of these rangefinders even have a slope option. Well, now I know why ‘Heidi’ kicked out butts that day. I decided I would do some reviews on some of the best rangefinders, to help you decide if you want one of these fancy gadgets in your golf bag.

Tec Tec Tec VPro 500 Golf  Laser Rangefinder

What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder

What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder - Tec Tec Tec VPro 500

• Range: 540 yards

• Accuracy: +/- 1 yard

• Magnification: 6x

• Dimensions: 4.1″ x 2.8″ x 1.6″

• Weight: 0.41 lbs.

• Warranty:  2 years

• Guarantee: 30 days

The Tec Tec Tec VPRO500 Rangefinder is really a nice piece of equipment. The VPRO500 is very lightweight coming in at just 0.41 lbs and is rainproof. The laser rangefinder will measure out to 540 yards with a +/- 1 yard, which is pretty damn close if I should say so myself. The VPRO500 uses a premium, ultra-clear, multilayered optical lens that has an almost crystal clear view.

VPRO500 uses the latest rangefinder technologies so it is more accurate than the rest of the rangefinders out on the market today. With 6X magnification and the multi-coating allows it to measure perfect distance. Tec Tec Tec uses their diopter adjustment function so you get clear views, even if you are nearsighted or farsighted.

The VPRO500 has 3 different scanning modes. The Pinseeker Mode lets you get accurate distances by overlapping targets, like the flag pin with some woods behind it this gives you really accurate distances. First Target Priority Mode this one gives you the distance to the closest object. The final one is the Scan Mode it is a continuous scan in which you can view sand bunkers, trees, water, or any other hazard out on the course.

The VPRO500 comes with a CR2 battery, a silicon case for waterproofing and dust, a premium shock-resistant case to protect against any impacts and crappy weather, a microfiber cleaning cloth, a wrist strap, and a quick start-up guide, so you can start using it right out of the box.

Pros

• Lightweight

• Inexpensive

• Clear visibility

• Rainproof

Cons

The only thing to complain about, it was a little tricky using at first but maybe by using it more, it will become more user-friendly.

My Opinion

Overall this is a fantastic rangefinder and will definitely help with more accurate distances and help take strokes off your game.

I give this rangefinder a 5 out of 5 golf balls.

UPDATE: Tec Tec Tec has a new rangefinder out for 2020 click here for more on the new ULT-X.

Bushnell Tour V4 Jolt Golf Laser Rangefinder

What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder - Bushnell Tour v4

What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder

Range: 5 – 1000 yards

• Accuracy: +/- 1 yard

• Magnification: 5x

• Dimensions: 4″ x 1.57″ x 3.11″

• Weight: 6.6 oz

• Warranty: Limited 2 years

• Guarantee: 30 day

The Bushnell Tour V4 Laser Golf Rangefinder with Jolt Technology is a very nice piece of equipment. But has Bushnell ever made something crappy? I don’t know of anything lol. Bushnell says the Tour V4 is the best combination of size, speed, accuracy, and JOLT.

JOLT technology is simple when you find the flag the V4 will give you a jolt or small vibrations that let you know you are locked on target. This will give you a very accurate distance so you know what golf club you need to hit the green.

The V4 uses a fantastic quick Fast Focus System that ensures focus with clarity on your target. The optics are multi-coated giving you nice clarity. V4 has 5x magnification with a 21 mm lens with a field view of 368ft@1000 yards. The V4 can get you within a yard of your target which means shorter putts, for us golfers.

The V4 does not have a slope option on this model and it is not waterproof. It does come with a hard case and a battery. It also has an LCD display.

You also get the free Bushnell Golf App when you purchase the V4. The app gives you lots of information like hole layouts with distances and 3D flyovers also with distances. You also get course updates wirelessly.

Bushnell says they are the undisputed #1 golf rangefinder in pro golf and that their rangefinders are used by 97% of the tour pros, so if the big guys use it this has to be the top dog of rangefinders right?

Pros

• Lighter, fast focus.

• Vibrates when you are on target.

• Compact.

• Very accurate.

• Pros use it.

Cons

• Expensive.

• Not waterproof.

• No slope option.

• Only 5x magnification.

My Opinion

Bushnell makes, in my opinion, the best optical products in the world from binoculars to rangefinders. They are trusted worldwide by hunters, astronomers, and golfers. You really can’t go wrong with any of their products.

I give this rangefinder a 4.5 out of 5 golf balls.

Callaway Golf 300 Pro Laser Rangefinder

What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder What Is The Best Golf Rangefinder - Callaway Golf 300

• Range: 5 – 1000 yards

• Accuracy: +/- 1 yard

• Magnification: 6x

• Dimensions: 4.25″ x 3″ x 1.75″

• Weight: 7.85 oz

• Warranty: 2 years

• Guarantee: 30 days

The Callaway Golf 300 Pro Laser Rangefinder is another well-built piece of technology. It gives you all the measurements for the distance you will ever need when you are out at the golf course.

The 300 Pro uses Slope Technology that measures the incline and decline and adjusts the distance for you to be more accurate. With Birdie Technology, this rangefinder will give you a “chirp” sound letting you know that the laser has locked in on the flag. The Pin Acquisition Technology or P.A.T. lets you lock on to the flag from 300 yards.

Callaway says the 300 Pro is also waterproof and fog proof and has a case to store it in. It also has a CR2 battery.

The 300 Pro is a little bigger and weighs a little more so I think for people like me with big hands this rangefinder would be perfect to have.

You can measure your distances in yards and meters, so practically anyone in any country can use this rangefinder. With the +/- 1 yard, you will be closer to the hole which now you will be cutting strokes off your scores.

Pros

• Bigger size and heavier great for big hands.

• It has all elements to measure for accuracy.

• Water and fog proof.

Cons

• The carrying case seems poorly made.

• Distance may vary some, seems to pick up objects behind the flag.

• Expensive.

My Opinion

The Callaway 300 Pro is a great product and I know anyone could use this piece of equipment in their golf bag.

I give this rangefinder a 4.5 out of 5 golf balls.

Conclusion

These are the golf rangefinders that I feel are the best ones and anyone looking into getting one these would be the ones to get. These rangefinders have all the technology you will ever need out on the golf course. So whether you like chirping or vibration when you lock in on the flag and then know you need to go 117 yards to the hole, you will be able to grab the right golf club and stick your approach shot.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful and informative article about what is the best golf RANGEFINDER. I had an idea about RANGEFINDER before but after reading this article the previous idea has completely changed. After reading this article I note that a rangefinder is so much better at giving you accurate yardage to the pin, and some of these rangefinders even have a slope option to help me out even more with accuracy and yardage.
Rangefinders also have many other benefits that I have noticed in the article, I really like the article

    • Thank you for your comment Shariful Islam. Golf is my favorite sport to play also, but you don’t need a rangefinder to play it. All golf courses have markers running down the fairways giving you approximate yardage, so if you find your golf ball right at the 150-yard marker you are probably about 150 yards from the pin. The rangefinder will give you much better and more accurate yardage. Thank you again for your comment.

  4. I’m not very good at estiming distances on my own. I have a caddie that he’s helpful with this, but he’s not always available so I’ve started to research about a good rangefinder. I’m glad I found your post! After reading all three options listed here, I’ve made up my mind to purchase Bushnell Tour V4 Jolt Golf Laser. I like it’s very accurate and I’ve seen pros using this one!

  7. Hi There,

I think this is a good idea but isn’t the whole idea of golf supposed to be away from the technical stuff and in the fresh air swinging with delight at balls? It’s great though I never heard about the rangefinder before what a great idea and it’s sure to improve my golf and I think Heidi has a great idea too. Did she beat you on the range that day?

    • Thank you for your comment, Stephen. I am an old school golfer, I have always used the markers on the course to find my yardage to the green. But I did lose to Heidi and her rangefinder, so did it help? Yes, she beat all of us by 4 strokes that day. But I am curious, and I would like to use one just to see if my yardage is anywhere close to what the rangefinder puts up. Thanks again for your comment.

  8. I am not really into golfing fully, its something I love doing on vacations with my family and ai has grown fund of it since I have started playing about a year ago. My gold stick happens to be the only thing I really pay attention to but I guess its high time I take it to the next level by getting a rangefinder. I have seen a couple of golfers make use of it and I find it really cool to have it. The Tec Tec Tec VPro 500 Golf  Laser Rangefinder seem very portable and I love the fact that it’s not expensive

  10. My story about learning about the range finder is just as similar to yours because I didn’t know much about the range finder before. It was a friend that brought the beauty out from his bag a couple of weeks ago when we were playing as well. I thought to myself that I needed to get one of those. When he explained it’s use, I was pinned immediately. I think the Tec Tec Tec VPro 500 Golf  Laser Rangefinder is the best from your list seeing that it gets a good 5/5 rating. I’ll go for that.

    • Thank you for your comment, Henderson. I think the VPro 500 is a great choice the price is affordable and it has a lot of features just like the others. I did give it 5 out of 5 golf balls because of the price and that it has a better magnification than the Bushnell Tour V4 Jolt. If you do get the VPro don’t hesitate to let me know about your experience and if you cut any strokes off your game. Thank you again for your comment.

  11. I like your story with heidi on how she was talking about rangefinders that do more to find you accuracy and yardage to the pin than the yard markers do. Her going on to win against everyone that day proves that a rangefinder is a worthwhile tool to have while golfing. Do you prefer having a rangefinder when you golf?

    • Thank you Jon, for your comment. I definitely saw the advantage of having the rangefinder. Heidi beat all of us by 4 strokes with the rangefinder, but I am still the old school golfer who uses the course markers and approximating the yardage. Now that I saw it in person the way it benefitted Heidi’s game I am leaning to getting one for myself. Jon thank you again for your comment.
